  • Biographie-Portal (Biographical Portal) (Bio-Portal)

    The “Biographical Portal” is a cooperative project of the Bavarian State Library, the Historical Committee at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and the Foundation Historical Dictionary of Switzerland. A joint index makes available the following works: Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (ADB) (Universal German Biography), Neue Deutsche Biographie (NDB) (New German Biography), Österreichisches Biographisches Lexikon 1815-1950 (ÖBL) (Austrian Dictionary of Biography 1815–1950), Historisches Lexikon der Schweiz (HLS) (Historical Dictionary of Switzerland). Publication of the HLS, NDB, and ÖBL, is still underway. In this way, more than 100,000 scholarly biographies of persons from all social backgrounds and nearly all periods of German, Austrian, and Swiss history may be accessed. Further national and regional biographical works of reference are planned for future inclusion in the portal.

  • Consortium of European Research Libraries Thesaurus (CERL Thesaurus)

    The CERL Thesaurus contains names of persons, corporate bodies, places and printers/publishers recorded in books or other material printed during the hand-press era (1450 - ca. 1830). Authority files contributed by CERL member libraries and other libraries/projects concentrating on the history of the book are brought together and made searchable in one single system. The CERL Thesaurus currently comprises 724,857 records (14 December 2009).

  • Deutsche Biografie (German Biography) (NDB-ADB)

    The "Deutsche Biografie" provides a structured lexical expertise to more than 90,000 historical figures from all areas of public life. It currently includes digital full texts of more than 46,000 historical and biographical articles in the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (ADB, 56 volumes, 1875-1912) and Neue Deutsche Biographie (NDB online so far 22 volumes since 1953) and links the library resources of the Bavarian State Library, the Bavarian union catalog and the German National Library.

  • Eurovoc Thesaurus (Eurovoc)

    Eurovoc is a multilingual thesaurus covering the fields in which the European Communities are active; it provides a means of indexing the documents in the documentation systems of the European institutions and of their users. The European Parliament, the Office for Official Publications of the European Communities, the national and regional parliaments in Europe, some national government departments and European organisations are currently using this controlled vocabulary. The European institutions, the national parliaments and the various users of Eurovoc have cooperated to produce this edition.

    The Gemeinsame Körperschaftsdatei (Corporate Body Authority File, GKD) is the relevant norm data file for German and foreign corporate body names in the German speaking area. During the 1970s it was developed from the corporate body citations of the periodicals database known as the German Union Catalogue of Serials (ZDB) of the Deutsche Bibliothek Frankfurt am Main and the Bavarian State Library Munich. The file is now maintained and edited by the Bavarian State Library, the Berlin State Library, the German National Library and also the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek, and updated on an ongoing basis to include corporation names from magazine and monograph listings by German and Austrian library networks.

    In the Personennamendatei (Name Authority File, PND) all names of persons important for descriptive and subject cataloguing as well as for national cataloguing projects are brought together. Most of all it represents a service to avoid multiple work in building personal names headings as well as in the unification of different forms of headings. Moreover, the PND is the reference file for international co-operation in the area of creating personal names headings.

    The Union List of Artist Names (ULAN) is a structured vocabulary currently containing around 293,000 names and other information about artists. Names in ULAN may include given names, pseudonyms, variant spellings, names in multiple languages, and names that have changed over time (e.g., married names). Among these names, one is flagged as the preferred name.

    VIAF is a joint project of several national libraries, implemented and hosted by OCLC. The project's goal is to lower the cost and increase the utility of library authority files by matching and linking the authority files of national libraries, and then making that information available on the Web.
